John Whiting has been a consultant Upper GI surgeon at University Hospitals Birmingham, Queen Elizabeth since 2004. John is the lead clinician for Upper GI Surgery at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and his main specialisation is in oesophageal and gastric malignancies with a particular interest in developing fully minimally invasive surgery for these cancers. He has spent much time developing systems to allow collection of clinical and outcome data with a particular focus on engaging clinicians by ensuring that these systems are clinically useful. His pet hate is poor quality data.
Outside of medicine he is a keen glider pilot having competed at national level and spent many years as a gliding instructor.
