Mr Prasanna Sooriakumaran (PS), @PSUrol, is one of the UK’s best known academic prostate cancer surgeons. Having undergone robotic fellowships at Cornell in New York and the Karolinska in Stockholm, he was appointed as an academic consultant urologist at the University of Oxford in 2013. At Oxford, he helped expand the robotics program, before he moved to University College London Hospital in January 2017. He is now one of the UK’s highest volume robotic prostatectomy surgeons, performing over 150 cases per year. He has published over 150 manuscripts, given over 250 invited presentations, and won over 30 awards and prizes for his prostate cancer research. His current interests are in high risk and advanced prostate cancer and PS leads the UK feasibility trial evaluating surgery in oligo-metastatic prostate cancer. He is the only urologist on the NCRI advanced prostate cancer subgroup and also serves on the British Association of Urological Surgeons section of academic urology. PS is the UK representative on the EAU Young Academic Urologists working group in prostate cancer and the prostate cancer section of the EAU Robotic Urology Society scientific working party. In July 2017, PS joined two other high volume robotic prostatectomy surgeons to form the Santis Clinic, the only UK prostate cancer service where all surgeons offer Retzius-sparing radical prostatectomy, a novel but technically challenging procedure that offers virtually all men early continence recovery after prostate cancer surgery.
