Dr Sara J Matthews is a Consultant Gynaecologist and a Subspecialist in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery.
I completed my 5 year medical degree at the Queens University of Belfast, and had five years of post- graduate training in associated teaching hospitals in Northern Ireland whilst also gaining my MRCOG parts I and II.
At this point I moved to England, and worked first with Lord Robert Winston at the Hammersmith hospital for 18 months, then the largest fertility unit in the UK, and then, for two years at the large assisted conception units in Leeds, where I completed my Masters’ degree (University of Leeds). After that I spent two years at Addenbrookes hospital and Bourn Hall in Cambridge, at the end of which I had completed both my general Obstetrics and Gynaecology training (CCST), and qualified as an RCOG Subspecialist in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery. I am a fully trained Medical Forensic officer, and hold the MSSVD part 2 (sexually transmitted infections), and I am a level two endoscopic surgeon.
I worked at private fertility units in Colchester and London until my appointment as the lead clinician at the Homerton University Hospital trust in London.
I resigned from the NHS after my two children were born, and concentrated on my private gynaecology, fertility and menopause practice in London. I have been working in fertility for 20 years now, and in full time private practice since 2007.
Research interests include: female fertility preservation, improving IVF outcome, and the medical benefits of non- surgical aesthetic gynaecological procedures.
I am currently recruiting for a trial to investigate the potential benefits of vaginal radiofrequency for young women having breast cancer treatment.
