Dr Verna Lavender, PhD, PGCTHE, BSC(Hons), RGN

I am a cancer nurse academic. I work at Guy’s and St.Thomas’ NHS FT as Head of Guy’s Cancer Academy and have an honorary senior clinical lectureship at King’s College London. I am also the immediate past president of the UK Oncology Nursing Society. Since qualifying as a nurse in 1987, I have worked in a variety of health service settings, including acute and primary care, cancer care education and training, service improvement and research. I am passionate about conducting cancer nursing research to improve outcomes of people with cancer and using evidence-based knowledge to educate the cancer workforce. My main interest is person-centred cancer care. I am a member of the Aspiring Cancer Career and Education Development Programme (ACCEnD) Steering Group and Work Stream 2 co-lead; I also chair the UK Acute Oncology Education and Training Group. I have worked with various cancer charities throughout my career.
