After graduating in dentistry from the London Hospital Dental School in 1985, Mr Goodger worked as a general dental practitioner in Southend, Essex before undertaking junior posts in oral and maxillofacial surgery in Essex and London.
Mr Goodger went on to study medicine at St George’s Hospital Medical School from 1988 to 1993, followed by basic surgical training. He completed his higher training in oral & maxillofacial surgery at Guy’s Hospital (with a secondment to University of California, San Francisco) and the Kent and Canterbury Hospital, completing his PhD in cell cycle control proteins and their expression in normal, hyperplastic, dysplastic and malignant oral epithelia in 2004.
Mr Goodger has worked at East Kent Hospitals, as a consultant oral and maxillofacial surgeon specialising in head & neck cancer and facial reconstruction (2004-date). He has held a number of managerial roles in addition to his clinical role including Clinical Director of Cancer Services for East Kent Hospitals (2006–2009), Medical Director of the Kent & Medway Cancer Network (2009–2013), Clinical Director for the South East Coast Strategic Clinical Network for Cancer (2013–2015), Divisional Medical Director Surgical Services at East Kent (2015-18) and is now Deputy Medical Director at East Kent Hospitals.
